Net metering is a new process of buying and selling electricity. It started in the US, its use has expanded to many European countries and is now a fact in Greece!
The consumer has the ability to install a photovoltaic system in order to reduce significantly, even to cut down on electricity consumption.
That is, the consumer is allowed to offset the energy consumed by the grid with the energy produced by the photovoltaic. The philosophy of Net Metering is presented in the following diagram:
The following are entitled to install a photovoltaic system under Net Metering:
• Natural Persons (traders or not)
• Legal Entities of Private Law (eg companies, institutions, associations, cooperatives etc.)
• Legal Entities of Public Law (eg Municipalities, Regions, State Agencies etc.)
Also, the owners of the property or those who have legal use of the property have the right to join the Net Metering program in the case of shared or shared space after the other co-owners have granted the use of the space or part of it. In addition, someone who simply makes legal use of the site (eg through lease, free concession, etc.) has the right to join as long as he has secured the owner’s written consent.
Photovoltaic systems can be installed on buildings or on the ground or other structures in the same or adjacent space (roof, roof, parking, storage, roofing) with the power plants they supply.
